Frequently Asked Questions

 Design & Sound

    • Most systems mix and match parts, hoping they play well together. Ours is purpose-built as a single, balanced unit, every piece designed for performance and simplicity.

    • To us, heirloom quality means our products don’t become trash with wear. They can be repaired, restored, and enjoyed for generations. We’re committed to lifetime customers, not repeat customers from planned obsolescence.

    • The audio market is full of expensive components that claim to deliver superior sound quality, but it’s hard to know if they will affect your sound until you purchase them and whether the next tier up of tubes, expensive RCA cables, top-end tube bias capacitors, or potted transformers were worth the investment. At ClowderCo, we operate differently. When we design our amplifiers, we go stage by stage and complete meticulous testing to make sure our customers will hear the difference from our choices. If an element of the system didn’t meet our high standards, it doesn’t make the cut.

  • Our systems are tuned for a rich and visceral listening experience. You’ll hear nuances in your favorite music that rival live performances: the air between instruments, the breath of a vocalist — even subtle studio details like someone forgot to turn off the click track.

  • Vacuum tubes produce smooth distortion, fast responsiveness, and a natural midrange. They capture the energy of a performance. You can hear the room, the pluck of a string, and the reverb of the stage.

  • It’s concert-capable (up to 104 dB) yet crystal-clear at conversation level (~60 dB). You don’t need to crank it for a great sound.

 Setup & Use

  • No. Place it where you want; pop in the tubes; connect your inputs; plug in the power; and fire it up.

    • We provide two RCA channels — compatible with but not limited to digital-to-analog converters, Wi-Fi streaming, Bluetooth, phono preamps, CD players, tape decks, and 8-tracks.

    • We are capable of other options. If you have something specific in mind, please don’t hesitate to ask.

    • Each console fits in a standard pickup truck and, depending on the console, weighs around 150-250 pounds (in its shipping crate).

    • We recommend shipping the same way ClowderCo delivers to you. Always remove the tubes before shipping.

  • It’s robust enough that occasional forgetfulness won’t harm it, but for component longevity, turn it off when not in use. Avoid rapid power-cycling; wait at least 30 seconds (ideally 20 minutes for tube cool-down) before turning back on.

 Customization & Experience

  • We offer limited customization upon request. Please contact us.

    • We’re a small business partnering with select brick-and-mortar locations.

    • If you’re in the Dayton/Cincinnati or Ann Arbor/Detroit areas, we can bring a system to you so you can hear it in your own space.

    • Outside those regions, travel may incur a fee. We’re developing a modular demo option for future customers.

  • ClowderCo consoles are for anyone who wants amazing sound in a beautiful piece of furniture. Whether you’re spinning records or streaming, you’ll hear the difference.

 Service & Maintenance

    • For simple items (like tubes and fuses), we can sell or send you the part and guide you remotely. Each unit includes a decal on the back with maintenance tips.

    • For furniture or electronic repairs, we can provide parts and guidance to any qualified local repair shop.

    • For major repairs, we offer white-glove return shipping to our shop.

    • In rare cases, a team member may visit you for service.

    • We’re committed to our customers and want to be part of the solution if issues arise.

  • No. Everything is hand-wired, so there are no proprietary chips or fragile circuit traces. Tubes are easy to replace, and the system is built for lifetime serviceability.

    • We use components listed by UL, CE, and RoHs. Our amplifiers are built with safety in mind, so each subsystem is fused to isolate issues and protect our customers.

    • Each system undergoes end-of-line quality checks, including a 24-hour burn-in to isolate the most common types of electrical failures for this technology.
